Woman Killed, 12 Injured in Knife Attack at Beijing Shopping Mall

One woman was killed and 12 others injured following a knife attack at a popular shopping mall in downtown Beijing on Sunday, CGTN reports.

The attack occurred at 1pm in Joy City in Xidan, police confirmed.

The attacker was a 35-year-old man surnamed Zhu. Zhu has been detained and told police that he carried out the attack to "vent personal grievances," according to a statement.

Three men and 10 women were taken to the hospital after the attack. One woman died from her injures. The other victims are expected to recover, police said.

An investigation is currently underway.
