Police in Macau busted a gang of pimps from Chinese mainland on Sunday, apprehending 36 suspected gang members.

Of the four kingpins in charge of the operation, the oldest was 27 and the youngest just 16 years old. They were found in four rooms of a Cotai hotel, the name of which has not been released.

The gang members reportedly used social networking apps such as WeChat to reel in johns and informed the four gang leaders each time they found a client. After arranging for an encounter in a nearby hotel for which clients would pay MOP1,000-3,000 (RMB780-2,339).

The profits would then be split three ways: 30 percent to the gang member who found the client, 50 percent to the prostitute, and the remainder to the kingpins. The prostitutes, however, would not be paid until they returned to the mainland.

All of the kingpins and most other gang members hailed from Chongqing, although some of the other suspects also came from Guangdong, Guangxi and Sichuan.
