A masculine-looking man entertained crowds at Hangzhou's West Lake on Saturday by dressing as one of China's 'ancient beauties'.

The man was cosplaying as the ancient beauty Madame White Snake, the famous heroine of Legend of the White Snake. The classic work, which first appeared in writing in the Ming dynasty, has been adapted into numerous Chinese operas, television dramas and movies. It is set in West Lake.

Saturday's Madame White Snake, a 27 year old from Sichuan, said he intended to do a tour around the 10 scenic spots of West Lake, to take in all the locations mentioned in the legend. Asked about his motive, he said, “I want to see how many heads I can turn by dressing up like this.”

He got his wish when the photos soon went viral on Weibo.
