Developers of 798 Art Zone in Beijing, SevenStar, and France’s National Picasso Museum and Giacometti Foundation are teaming up to bring a new museum to the Chinese capital, which will focus on the art of Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti.

Representatives from each of the three organizations signed a final contract at the French Consulate in Shanghai on November 5 in the presence of French Minister of Culture Franck Riester.

The Picasso Museum and Giacometti Foundation will jointly manage the institution from 2020 until 2025, presenting up to four exhibitions each year, according to ArtNet News

798CubeProject Space is based in 798 Art Zone in Beijing’s Chaoyang district. It is designed by Chinese architect Zhu Pei, who is also undertaking the design and construction of Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum.

The news follows on from the launch of the West Bund Art Museum x Centre Pompidou exchange in Shanghai, which will see the newly opened riverside museum partner with the French culture center for the next five years. It also comes just months after the huge success of China’s largest-ever Picasso exhibition at UCCA in Beijing.
