International Museum Day kicks off on Saturday, May 18, and while it's not an official holiday, hear us out — it's a pretty big deal, especially if you’re a sucker for a good deal.

Let's be honest, what could be better than a fair portion of intellectual fulfillment for a miniscule price? Especially in Beijing, where most people would probably much rather spend RMB100 on an overrated burger than a ticket to a gallery. But how about RMB158 for a ticket to 12 galleries?

Whether you’re an obsessive art nerd or the type that only shows up to 798 Art Zone to take artsy graffiti selfies, this might be a one-off opportunity to fill up your yearly aesthetic quotas. Forget about day drinking for an afternoon and indulge in a sophisticated gallery blitzkrieg, thanks to a special collaboration project by select art venues across the city.

One special ticket buys you free (or mega-discounted) entry to 12 of the most contemporary venues on Beijing’s modern art map. Start your day at Today Art Museum, catch up on the latest art trends among the Chinese youth at CAFA Art Museum, only to end up in 798, staggering from one gallery to another till your brain signals art overflow.

See the full list of galleries and buy your one-day pass right here. Tickets can be used only once on Saturday, May 18 or Sunday, May 19.

International Museum Day is an initiative started in 1977 and coordinated by the International Council of Museums that invites all educational and art institutions to participate and help draw people’s attention to the cause of protecting natural and cultural heritage. It is also a powerful platform that advocates for the importance of museums for the world.

As they say, art is long and life is short, so get out there and soak up as much as you can in one day.
