With over 680,000 fans on Sina Weibo, this fat furry feline was the cat’s meow.

According to China Daily, Lou Lou appears all over the internet through emojis, videos, memes and pictures, "You may not know the cat's name, but you must have seen its emojis," says the cat’s owner Lou Banniang. As an internet celebrity, Lou Lou's funny facial expressions and poses amuse people everywhere.

However, on October 14, Lou Lou tragically passed away from a heart attack. Online fans everywhere grieved and lamented over the internet star cat’s death.

"One of the necessities in my life is watching each and every move of Lou Lou. It looks like an angel to me, and it has now gone back to paradise," said Weibo user Pai Dadui.
"I cannot accept the fact that Lou Lou has gone forever, and my favorite emojis cannot update any more," wrote another user, Xiao Pihai_223.

After a video of Lou Lou taking bath went viral, the cat caught the public’s eye and became an instant internet sensation. The video received millions of views and memes of Lou Lou started appearing on the internet along with the creation of the Lou Lou emoji. Vendors started selling images of Lou Lou on pillows, cups, clothes, and cartoons as well.

How did this fat cat become so famous? As cute, furry and independent creatures, cats are popular pets with humans, and cat culture is currently on the rise. According to director of Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel Group Abi Purser: "Cat culture seems to have exploded over the past few years, from millions of funny cat videos being shared all over social media, to cats becoming internet famous and celebrities in their own right. It would be a strange week indeed if I wasn't sent multiple links by friends to cat-related articles."
