China Railway announced its schedule for the 2017 Spring Festival travel rush.

The (in)famous Chunyun period (春運), which is the largest annual migration of humans on Earth, typically starts a fortnight before New Year's Eve and lasts forty days and nights.

The 2017 Chunyun period will start on January 13 and finish on February 21. Train tickets for Chinese New Year will begin going on sale tomorrow.

To accomodate the rush of ticket sales, the online procedure will be simplified, Global Times reports. For instance, 60 percent of tickets sold online will not require a verification code to place an order.

Some new high-speed train lines to and from major cities will also be put into operation ahead of the holiday, notably the Shanghai-Yunnan route.

This year, the number of railway passengers is expected to hit 356 million.
