Get ready to add some flexibility to your travel plans, because starting August 14, passengers on the high-speed rail journey between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Shenzhen Futian Station can enjoy the perk of changing their tickets up to three times in a single day.

Announced by the HK MTR Corporation on August 8, the new offering, aptly named 'Flexi-trip' service, is set to make the lives of cross-border commuters a bit more adaptable.

Under this initiative, passengers holding valid tickets for travel between Futian and Hong Kong West Kowloon stations can change their booked train up to three times in a day, even after they've either made one prior change or have exceeded the window for changes.

For a seamless experience, the rail authorities will allocate a certain number of 'unreserved seats' available for passengers using the 'Flexi-trip' service, allowing them to choose their seats when making changes and easing the flow of travelers between the two dynamic cities.

It's worth noting that this flexibility applies exclusively to trains traveling between Futian and Hong Kong West Kowloon stations.

However, while the service brings ease, it comes with a few terms and conditions.

  • Passengers using the 'Flexi-trip' service cannot change their ticket class or seat grade;

  • Only same-price changes are permitted, with no additional fare incurred;

  • Once the ticket is changed, it cannot be refunded.

The 'Flexi-trip' service can be accessed through the 12306 website (including the 12306 mobile app), ticket counters at stations, as well as automatic ticket machines at Futian and Hong Kong West Kowloon stations.

The specific operational details are yet to be disclosed, with the feature set to roll out on August 14; stay tuned for updates from That's as we bring you the latest on this feature.
