15 Super Fun F&B Events in Shanghai This Week and Beyond

That's Shanghai takes a look at some of the week's best upcoming F&B events and promotions: 


Nov 8: An Evening in Normandy

Le Bouchon is kicking off its series of theme dinners with a culinary trip to Normandy, the region of cream, butter and cheese! At 6pm the evening starts with a cheese degustation (RMB100) gets you a cheese plate and a glass of Normandy cider) consisting of Brie, Mimolette, St-Paulin, Pavé d'Isigny plus four types of bread by French bakery Pain Chaud. Once you've had your fill of delicious fromage de Normandie, dinner is available à-la-carte. The Chef specials highlight ingredients from Normandy, and we have our eye on the beef tenderloin and sautéed kale with creamy Brie cheese and black truffle sauce and cauliflower gratin, topped with grated Mimolette cheese.

Nov 8, 11, 13: Lean Chinese Cooking

Do you struggle to maintain a healthy diet in Shanghai? It doesn't have to be that way, because many great Chinese dishes are 100 percent whole food and use lean protein sparingly for flavor. Elevate your Chinese cooking skills and take your meal choices beyond greasy hole-in-the-wall dumplings. Join other Shanghai foodies and healthy eaters to learn to cook leaner, healthier Chinese food. This hands-on cooking class includes three courses and drinks.

Nov 10: Arrogant BBQ at Stone Brewing

Stone Brewing is teaming up with Heartland Brothers and Smoke KCQ to throw an outdoor BBQ party to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Arrogant Bastard Ale. They’ll be serving a variety of Berkshire pork sausages and pork ribs cooked with Arrogant Consortia beers. There will also be a spicy sausage eating contest, whereby participants will have the chance to win Arrogant beers and Heartland Brothers products.

Nov 10: PAPP'S TEA Kombucha Workshop

Kombucha has been brewed in China for hundreds of years. Now you can learn about this wonderful probiotic tea through a workshop hosted by PAPP'S TEA! Join Martin Papp, the founder of the brand, as he explains to you the health benefits of kombucha. Learn about probiotics and how kombucha can counteract the damages done by our modern lifestyle. Everyone who attends receives with their own SCOBY and home brewing kombucha kit!

Nov 10: Kraken Attack

Join the Grand Hyatt at their Cloud 9 bar for sweeping views of the city paired with the world's most badass rum cocktails. This bold bottle of booze is distilled from sweet Trinidadian molasses and flavored with an 11 spice mix including cinnamon, ginger and clove. The resulting rum, named for the 'sea beast of myth and legend, is black and smooth. In the hands of Blacky Su, this unique spirit will be turned into amazing cocktails. See you on Saturday!

Nov 11: Niigata Rice Onigiri Workshop

The C.S.E. (Cooking Skill Exchange) is hosting an onigiri (Japanese Rice Ball) workshop at XIME this Sunday. Yamaga Yohei, a third generation Niigata rice farmer and agriculture graduate from Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture will be leading the workshop. This is particularly exciting as the Niigata prefecture is known for having superior rice, and you will use the Yohei family farm rice for your four traditional types of onigiri. Pay RMB30 extra to add three of XIME's infamous home-infused shochu shots.

Nov 11: Kiwi Brunch

When Shanghai wants to brunch, The Westin Shanghai is the place to do it with over 100 different local and international dishes, free-flow Veuve Clicquot Champagne, kids club and exciting live entertainment and this week is New Zealand Week. The buffet will be stocked with sustainable seafood, grass-fed lamb and beef, fresh kiwi fruit (natch), creamy ice cream, cold craft beers and New World wines.

Nov 13-18: Happiness Forgets Cocktail Pop Up

The East London cocktail outpost, Happiness Forgets, is landing in Shanghai for a five evening takeover at The Ritz Bar & Lounge. They will be bringing their sublime cocktails featuring simple twists on old classics, so can experience the unpretentious speakeasy vibes of London's most popular basement watering holes. Go take in the hospitality of a bar that takes customer experience above all else.

Nov 14: Mastri Birrai Umbri Italian Craft Beer Night

Mastri Birrai Umbri beer is hosting its first beer party in Shanghai which is excellent news for fans of Italian craft beer. Go try the beer while you chill out and nibble on Italian bites. Did we mention it's free flow? Oh and we hear the DJ is pretty cool too.

Nov 15: Ministry of Negroni Anniversary

Funkadeli is celebrating the 1-Year Anniversary of Ministry of Negroni on November 15 with a big bash featuring a cascade of negronis, a guest bartender, and revelry. Four negroni cocktails will be featured on the night – three of which are variations by guest bartenders from previous Ministry events. Main event guest bartender Johan Holmberg will be presenting a new cocktail on the night.

Nov 15: Bingo Night Fever

Bingo Night only comes around once a month and is truly one of the most fun events around, do don't miss it. This month 'taste' your luck at an event celebrating France's legendary wining and dining. Prizes look great from a Magic Decanter (don't you decant?) to a Niu Scooter and more.

Nov 17: Shanghai Baconfest 2018

Baconfest is back. Brought to Shanghai by Matt Rea, the bacon-loving genius behind the movable feast that was Ruijin Cajun, it's on at Cages next Saturday, November 17 from 11am-5pm. Check out the battle-off between bacon heads working to make bacon a tasty as possible, for your pleasure. What. Is. Not. To. Love. Expect lots of bacon and lots of goodness. Tickets include a drink and a try of each and every one of those bacon dishes in the aforementioned bacon head battle-off. What else do you need? More bacon, that's what.

Nov 18: EMW 15th Anniversary Portfolio Tasting

Wine enthusiasts, this one's for you. East Meets West Fine Wines (EMW) is celebrating their 15th anniversary and they're throwing a huge, wine-filled bash on November 18. The event will take place at Three on the Bund where there will be over 200 wines from 13 countries to sample. The Grand Tasting (RMB228) will be held from 2-5pm.

If you really want to get into the swing of things, there will be a few masterclasses on offer: Vietti Masterclass (2-2:45pm, RMB328), Bodega Garzon Masterclass II (3-3:45pm, RMB428) and Silver Oak Masterclass III (4-4:45pm, RMB528). Tickets are on sale now. (Note that prices for each masterclass are in addition to the RMB228 Grand Tasting.)

Nov 21: Wine & The City Xinjiang Wine Edition

Wine & The City, Puchang Winery and Hakkasan Shanghai are teaming up for a fantastic wine pairing dinner where they will introduce guests to wines from China's Turpan Valley region. In addition to tasting some fabulous food and wine, you'll learn all about the wines and the challenges it takes to grow some of China’s best vines.

Just to give you an idea of what's on the menu, dishes will include crispy duck salad with grapefruit, Wagyu beef dumplings, pork with pomelo and pomegranate and more.
