On October 3, a villager in Loushan Village, Loushanguan Town, Tongzi County in Guizhou found a polywoven bag as he was working in the fields. When he opened it up, he found a human skull. He reported it to the police earlier and, after 21 days of "battling day and night," they cracked the case on October 24.
Yesterday, they held a grand ceremony in a public square in front of the county seat's railway station, where they announced the closure of the now infamous "White Bones Case" and received a brocade banner from the victim's family as a token of gratitude.
On the night of November 2, 2012, Yang Hejian and his wife had a violent quarrel and, after forcing her to tell him her bank card passcode, Yang killed his wife and used a hatchet and cleaver to dismember her corpse, remove the flesh and wrap her bones in plastic, which he then placed in snakeskin bags.
Yang left the bag with the skull in a highway gutter 200 meters from his home.
