A scorned woman killed her ex-husbands mistress by burning her alive in a jealous rage before attempting to commit suicide.
The angered divorcee, surnamed Shi, allegedly doused the home-wrecker in petrol before setting her alight and leaving her to burn.
Shi carried out the attack saying the victim, who has not been named, “forced me to get a divorce.”
The jealousy-fuelled incident occurred on Friday outside a teahouse on a street in Kunming, capital of southwest Yunnan Province.
The teahouse owner witnessed the attack, saying Shi was holding a bucket while the two women quarreled.
Liu explained how he heard Shi accuse the victim of seducing her husband, while the ‘other woman’ remained steadfastly silent.
Irritated, Shi reportedly sprayed her victim with chili then raced to a nearby restaurant to collect a bucket of gasoline to dump on her ex-husband’s bedmate before setting her alight.
On-lookers tried to help the burning woman at no avail, and eventually she collapsed in the street.
Following the attack, Shi ran to a corner to find her hidden bottle of pesticide, which she drank and began foaming at the mouth.
When a passerby came to her rescue she allegedly pulled out a knife and insisted on hacking at her own chest and abdomen.
Shi was taken to hospital in a serious condition reportedly murmuring “As a woman, I have no reason to live, I don’t want to live”.
It was reported that Shi had worked in a hotel but quit. Her ex-husband is said to be a bus driver. The couple have a daughter who will enter college this year.
