Flappy Bird, the inexplicably popular and short-lived iPhone game, is now a measure of employability, according to one company in Wuhan, Hubei province.
In case you're blissfully aware of the game and surrounding media circus, it involves tapping on the screen of your device to make a little bird fly higher and avoid obstacles. It's pretty difficult, and keeping going for 20 minutes is undeniably impressive, but not necessarily employable.
The job advert, posted by Wuhan Wei Pei Information and Networking, is for an Android software developer, candidates must:
1) Be able come to our offices to play Flappy Bird for at least 20 minutes
2) [Be] fluent in javascript and experienced in shipping Java related products
3) Have at least one year of Android application development experience with at least one shipped project
According to China News, the man responsible for the job posting, surnamed Tang, said it had attracted lots of publicity for the company and that the game was a good way to understand an applicant's "personality".
Earlier this month, a security firm posted an advert seeking a "pornography assessor". Applicants must be competent at "recognising and accurately identifying" porn. [Insert joke about flapping one's bird]
