While not one of the largest subreddits, /r/China does occasionally produce some real gems, such as this thread started by the appropriately named @Get__Lucky: 'How can I subtly convince a Chinese girl to shave her moustache?

I'm going on a date with a Chinese girl this Friday, we're going to see some sights followed by a fancy dinner. She's a pretty girl, smart and friendly, but she's got this... well, she's got a faint moustache. Okay, I know it shouldn't bother me, I should be able to get over this one minor issue, but every time I look at her I find my eyes drifting to her hairy upper lip. If this leads anywhere I'm worried that I'm just going to obsess over her bristles. How should I approach this situation?

Other users aren't exactly sympathetic to GL's plight – "Maybe offer to shave your neck beard and in return she will do the same," reads one of the top-rated comments – but some advice is on hand:

Bring some tweezers to dinner with you, as you are enjoying your food let her know she has some food around her lip. Before she can clean off, romantically reach over and brush it for her but as you move away quickly pluck one of the hairs. Repeat until it is all gone.

I've known a few Chinese girls to have that faint fuzz lip. Chinese girls tend to fall to the extremes (like most Chinese anything). There are the ones that will be super tapped into fashion, in heels and a caked layer of make-up. Then, like your friend sounds, the ones that haven't really bothered about appearance since they've been studying for the Gao Kao instead.

I'm a girl, so it's easy for me to suggest a 'girly luxury day' where we will get manicures and facials. They'll likely remove the hair during the facial, either wax or lighten it with bleach. Do NOT recommend shaving, it will grow back stubbly and way more obvious.

fall into her with a razor in your hand. Aim for the upper lip and avoid the jugular.

Read the entire thread, and if you've come across this problem yourself, maybe help OP out.
