Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital is hosting Make Hope Happen, an exhibition inspired by health and life, at chi K11 Art Museum in Shanghai K11 Art Mall. The exhibition uses images and installation art to explore how modern medicine contributes to healing and helps people realize their dreams in the post-pandemic era. It will run until October 17, 2021.

In the post-pandemic era, healthcare has become a hot topic, prompting a rethinking of many aspects of life. Tilted Make Hope Happen, this art exhibition interprets the hope that physicians can give to patients.

In the eyes of Jiahui physicians, life is about caring and protecting, while treatment focuses on the person and not just the disease itself. This approach drives physicians to invest more time and effort in continuously improving the diagnosis and treatment plan to cure the disease and give patients hope to return to a normal life.

Therefore, when the contemporary artist Chiharu Shiota suggested the theme “I hope…,” Jiahui Health responded with Make Hope Happen from the perspective of health and life to realize hope through quality care and healing, not only physically but also emotionally.

This is the first time Japanese artist Chiharu Shioda has exhibited her latest immersive installation, titled I Hope, in China. In this work, 10,000 letters sent to the artist from people around the globe, sharing their hopes for the future, are strung together with a red thread.

Beneath the exquisite red line a small metal skeleton boat lies still, bow tilted upwards, sailing toward the endless hope of the future. Just as the theme of this exhibition is hope, the artist wants to bring hope to the people in the aftermath of the post-pandemic era.

Inspired by the installation I Hope... is the art installation A Surgeon’s Surgery Manuscript. The shape of a tree, representing life, is covered with manuscripts of Dr. Li Jun, Chief of General Surgery at Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital.

As an experienced surgeon, Dr. Li has been practicing medicine in Germany for more than 20 years and still adheres to the “think once, draw once, practice once” method.  Before each surgical operation, he runs through the surgical steps, either by manuscript, 3D modelling or printing, and goes over the key points again and again.

The physician’s care for the patient does not end with the consultation or the surgery, and effort is put in before and after the surgery. In the eyes of a physician, the life of every patient is precious.

As a symbol of Jiahui Health, the image of the elephant runs through the exhibition. The elephant’s friendly, united, loving and intelligent characteristics reflect the affection and teamwork of the Jiahui physicians.

In the installation artwork Super Warrior CAR -T, there is a baby elephant in armor that has a stronger fighting power than its peers. The white blood cells that perform the immune function are like warriors in the human body, and advanced hematology CAR-T therapy armors the T cells and transformed them into super warriors that have stronger fighting power.

In the treatment of malignant tumors, these super warriors can quickly detect and kill tumor cells in the body, increasing the chances of survival for cancer patients. In the fight against cancer, Jiahui Health wants patients to be filled with hope through its multidisciplinary consultation, advanced therapies and high-quality care.

Accurate treatment and excellence have always been the pursuit of Jiahui Health. The installation artwork Heart Center shows the little-known difficulty and precision of heart surgery. The heart controls the blood supply of the entire body, and the large coronary arteries of the heart are only 2 to 5 mm in diameter.

.jpg

If the coronary artery is more than 70% blocked, the cardiologist must use a 0.36 mm diameter guidewire to place a cardiac stent that is the same diameter as the coronary artery. Considering that the diameter of a human finger is a dozen times the diameter of a coronary artery, this procedure is as difficult as carving a grain of rice.

The meeting of a sperm and an egg is the origin of life. In the natural state, the sperm must overcome numerous obstacles to eventually meet the egg and form a fertilized egg. This process usually takes 48 hours, and there are families who have tried many times without success.

.jpg

With the help of modern medicine, IVF technology allows the sperm and egg to meet artificially, overcoming the obstacles and fulfilling the families’ desire to have children. The video installation The Seed of Hope shows the meeting of a sperm and egg at the Jiahui Reproductive Center. The egg has been successfully fertilized, resulting in the birth of a new life, a wonderful moment of joy.

In the post-pandemic era, the topic of vaccination is at the top of mind for many. The installation artwork Vaccine, a small elephant covering the entire wall, is like the epitome of society in this post-pandemic era. While more and more people are vaccinated and protected in the transparent spheres, a small portion of the population is still unprotected from the threat of the pandemic.

.jpg

On July 8, the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) published a real-world study of mass vaccination in Chile with the Chinese vaccine CoronaVac. In the introduction to the article, NEJM Frontiers in Medicine pointed out that this is the first time NEJM has published the results of a large clinical trial of a Chinese vaccine, gaining recognition of its effectiveness from international medical experts.

According to National Health Commission, herd immunity can only be achieved when the vaccination rate is 70% to 80%. Not everyone can be on the front line, but by getting vaccinated, we can contribute to the fight against this global pandemic.

In this exhibition, viewers can also see the intelligent systems in place at Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital in the form of interactive wall art. The hospital’s pneumatic logistics system can move specimens, data and documents to any floor of the hospital in an average of 10 to 20 seconds. This improves work efficiency and transfer accuracy, gaining valuable treatment time for patients.

Thanks to the advanced medical air purification system, Jiahui’s new air system can reduce the PM2.5 content of the air, block viruses and reduce the risk of infection, as if putting on a giant mask for the entire hospital. The PM2.5 level of the hospital does not exceed 10, so Jiahui can ensure safe accommodation for patients even during a pandemic. The intelligent systems allow the healthcare team to focus on care through hardware and software innovations.

Healthcare is a high priority, and Jiahui Health is committed to the community wellness and hopes to further increase national health awareness through this immersive art exhibition. While visiting it, viewers can also participate in interactive games to win baby elephant giveaways representing health and protection, and gain better knowledge of healthcare to care for themselves and their families.

Pediatrics also has a 24-hour fever clinic – in addition to round-the-clock care, measures are taken to separate children who show signs of infection but do not have fever yet, from children with a fever to avoid cross-infection.

At the same time, an air purification system equipped with medical filters is used throughout the hospital. Dust particles, germs and aerosols can be filtered out directly as if a “giant N95 mask” was placed over the entire hospital to protect the health of children & patients visiting the hospital during the epidemic.

The Department of Pediatrics of Jiahui Health is indeed the first choice for families in Shanghai.
