Antisemitic rants, selling swastika-branded clothing, releasing a song entitled 'Heil Hitler'—and now the "worst concert" one fan has ever been to.
Kanye West is being slammed for his performance in front of 70,000 people at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday night.
The problems began when the controversial rapper failed to appear until 40 minutes after the scheduled start time.
Frustrated fans, left steaming in the pouring rain, were already chanting for refunds on tickets that had cost them between RMB980 and RMB2,680.
When West, who has called himself Ye since 2021, finally did grace the stage, there was nothing by way of an apology.
Instead, according to one fan, he wore a mask the entire show, stayed in the middle of the huge stage so nobody could make him out, and even appeared to be lip-synching—before exiting the stage without so much as a goodbye.
X user @Fabian_Lemuel vented:
"45-minute late start - Shanghai has been averaging 30-40 degrees Celsius weather recently.
Mostly lip-synching. His microphone must have been up less than 20 percent of the time."
The rant went on...
"Stage set-up was terrible. I paid $260 for my seat and though they were reasonably close, he stayed in the circle so nobody could actually see him closely even if you were vip.
Also he wore a mask the entire show. People came to see u my guy! @kanyewest."
And on...
"For the encore, he disappeared for over 20 minutes at one point as tracks like 'Wolves' just played out with him nowhere in sight.
I could have just played your music at home man. Came to see u perform????"
All of which led the disappointed fan to label the concert as his "worst ever":
"So I’ve been a fan of Kanye West since I was a teen. MBDTF opened my ears to the sonics in music.
Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn’t even sleep night before.
But. Worst concert I’ve ever been to."
The debacle has resulted in a public apology from concert organizer, Shanghai Stellar Amber Group, who blamed the heavy rain for production problems, taking to Weibo to say:
"For this long-awaited return after 17 years, Ye’s team insisted on prioritizing artistic integrity.
After emergency adjustments, the show was delayed to ensure the best possible experience and to minimize the disappointment for the audience.
Before hopefully adding:
We are deeply moved by the understanding and patience shown by many of the attendees and express our heartfelt gratitude.
We also extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused and appreciate everyone’s attention and support."
In a final twist to this sorry tale, it turns out that Shanghai Stellar Amber Group was only founded as a company on May 22, 2025—less than two months before the ill-fated show—according to business database Tianyancha.
