Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...
Since its inception in 2002, the Jinqiao 8K Run has become a fixture in Shanghai's annual road race calendar. Debuting back when expat haven Jinqiao district was first being redeveloped, the race has become one of the neighborhood's most popular events.
The race, which had as many as 7,000 participants in 2013, went on hiatus last year following the tragic New Year's Eve stampede on the Bund a few months earlier.
This year's race will be held on April 10, with the start and finish lines at Dulwich College. The route will take runners through the tree-lined streets of Jinqiao's Green City. The race kicks off at 8 am, with an optional warm-up session at 7 am. Post-race activities are also planned, including a live performance and "fancy dress competition.
Registration already opened a week ago and closes at the end of this month. The fee is RMB150, which gets you a t-shirt, race bib and race chip.
For those wanting to run but not willing to commit to a whole eight kilometers, you can instead sign up for the Coca-Cola Happiness 3K Run at 10 am.
Water will be provided at different stations throughout the course, and runners will be able to store away their personal belongings before the run. The race “come rain or shine.”
