Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...

Shanghai Metro commuters, rejoice! The Shanghai Metro opened 27 new stations over the weekend, reports Shanghai Daily.

Lines 11, 12 and 13 were extended, bringing the total number of stations to 366 and the length of Shanghai's metro network to 617km, the longest in the world and 90km longer than second placed Beijing (yeah, in your face Beijing!) Line 12 added 16 new stations, nine of which are interchanges — more than any other network. Line 13 added nine stations, while Line 11 added just two.

According to ExploreShanghai, a number of currently popular stations will increase their interchanges:

A new 16 stations are expected, with an impressive number of connections to existing lines opening in downtown, before the line heads towards Minhang. In particular, South Shaanxi Road becomes a 3-line interchange with lines 1, 10 and 12, as does Hanzhong Road with Lines 1, 12, and 13. West Nanjing Road will also have three lines (2, 12 and 13) but unfortunately it will be a “virtual” interchange, meaning you’ll need to exit the paid area for some interchanges. The same fate befalls Longhua station, a virtual interchange between line 11 and line 12.

Middle Huaihai Road will also now get its own station along the Line 13.

Shanghai plans to add four more metro lines to the network by 2020. Another station for the Shanghai Disney Resort is slated to open next year.
