Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...
Hear ye, hear ye! 'Tis the most wonderful time of the year – well, if you like chili it is. That's right, it's almost time for the annual Bubba's Texas-style Bar-B-Que's annual Shanghai Chili Cook-off.
But it ain't gonna be no regular cook-off this year. 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the legendary Shanghai event, and Bubba's is going bigger than ever by holding the event at Wellington College's big old grassy campus.
As per usual, anyone can register to compete, and the event usually draws in a 50/50 mix of individual and restaurant teams. If you're interested in competing, check out the full list of rules here and check out the registration page here.
For regular attendees, the chili cook-off – held this year on November 7 – is from 11am-8pm and involves wandering round the chili team stalls, eating free samples of chili, getting drunk and/or eating copious amounts of food issued from a selection of F&B vendors.
This year we hear they've got Shanghai favorites Ruijin Cajun and Tito's Vodka on board. There's also live music and space for kids to run wild/freely/amok.
