Registration for the 2015 Shanghai International Marathon opens on Saturday... and this year it doesn't need to be a sprint, according to the Shanghai Daily.
While in previous years places were given on a first come, first served basis, this year they will be allocated by a lucky draw once registration closes, organizers have announced.
That means runners have until next Thursday - September 17 - to register for one of the 35,000 places in four categories in the 20th anniversary event on November 8.
There are 15,000 places available for the 42.2-kilometer marathon, 8,000 places for the 21km half marathon, 7,000 places for the 10k race and 5,000 for the 5k mini marathon.
The races will start at 7am at Financial Square on Bund, and the full and half marathons finish at Shanghai Stadium in Xuhui District.
Runners can register from September 12 to 17 through the official website, through Apple and Android race apps, or call an English language service on 400 196 2002 for more information.
The entry fee for the marathon and half marathon is RMB100 for Chinese competitors and RMB300 for foreign runners. For shorter races, it is RMB60 for Chinese and RMB200 for foreign runners.
Last year, the event attracted 6,012 foreign runners -17 percent of all competitors.
The results lottery will be announced on September 21.
