The dress rehearsal for a "Chinese Dream, Beautiful Labor"-themed singing competition in city of BijieGuizhou Province took a tragic turn on Saturday afternoon. And by "tragic," we mean hilarious (it's OK, nobody got hurt - not seriously, anyway).

Four score performers plummeted to the ground after the whole stage they were standing on fell apart. Six people suffered "light injuries" and taken to hospital; the remainder were unharmed.

Not the Chinese Dream

As comforting proof that humans still find nothing more amusing that the suffering of their fellow man, the humble gif has gone viral on the Chinese internet today.

Netizens commended the performers' orderly way of falling, which made it look like the stage was intentionally being lowered. "It must be a magic show!" one commenter guessed.

As discussion ensued on the cause of the collapse, the suggestion that there must have been "too many kickbacks" involved in the construction commission proved most popular.

Others looked at the words for "stage collapse" - a euphemism for the downfall of a politician - and read in it a dark omen for things to come in Bijie. You heard it here first, folks.

In the meantime, would someone mind turning this into a WeChat sticker, please?
