A construction company in Changsha, Hunan Province has erected a 57-story skyscraper in a stupefying 19 days by using "Lego-style" pre-fabrication techniques. 95 percent of the building materials were prepared in a factory beforehand and just had to be dropped in the right place. The structure hosts 800 apartment units.
Proceeding at an average of three floors a day, some sources have used Xi Jinping's catchphrase "the new normal" to refer to the construction (as opposed to slowing economic growth).
Some web users weren't so on board, however, wondering, "Who would dare go in?" and "will it stand longer than 19 days?" Another pointed out that "China doesn't lack speed; it lacks quality."
The company behind the project, however, has made some impressive considerations for sustainability. Broad Sustainable Building claims their pre-fab skyscraper is 80 percent more efficient than conventional structures, 3.6 kilometers of ramps linking the different floors, eight inches of insulation and three-stage air filters that reduce airborne particulates by 99.9 percent.
