Asia's 50 Best Restaurants include 9 in Hong Kong, 6 in Chinese mainland, 1 in Taiwan and 1 in Macau

Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Pannawere, were announced last night at an award ceremony in Singapore.

The highest hitter from China was Shanghai's Ultraviolet, where 20-course “Avant-Garde” set menu aims to unite food with multi-sensorial technologies in order to create a fully immersive dining experience, complete with lights, sounds, music and scents.

Four other Shanghai establishments also made the cut: Shanghainese Fu 1015, premium veggie destination Fu He Hui, modern French eatery Mr & Mrs Bund, and Hakkasan. In nearby Hangzhou, 28 Hu Bin Road also placed. For a more in-depth look at local winners in Shanghai, click here.

Le Moût in Taichung came in at 26th across the Taiwan Strait while Robuchon au Dôme come in 23rd for Macau and foodie capital Hong Kong punched well above its weight for an impressive nine restaurants in the top 50.

These included 8½ Otto E Mezzo Bombana, Bo Innovation, Amber, Caprice, The Chairman, Fook Lam Moon, Lung King Heen and L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon.

Shooting up from 50th last year to 24th this year, Japanese restaurant Tenku RyuGin, located in Hong Kong's tallest building, made the biggest jump amongst all the winners.
