WATCH: Delinquent panda stalks Sichuan streets in dead of night

At around 2am on the morning of March 5, CCTV cameras on the streets of Yingxiu in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province captured a rare and wonderful scene: a wild giant panda leisurely strutting along the city streets.

The plump adult panda - described, rather presumptively, as "charmingly naive" - crosses an intersection in the town of 10,000 several times, completing more than one loop before sauntering off. In a sign of civility rare even amongst our own species, however, the panda does deferentially adhere to the street's zebra crossing.

Employees from the neigboring Wolong giant panda nature reserve are currently trying to track down the errant panda. There are estimated to be just 1,590 of the endangered bears left in the wild - this was the first time one was ever spotted in Yingxiu.
