INFOGRAPHIC: How the world would look if countries were scaled according to population

This new cartogram put together by Reddit user TeaDranks resizes the countries of the world based on their demographic, rather than geographic, footprint.

The result: some countries disappear off the face of the Earth entirely, blank spaces emerge where sparsely populated expanses like Canada and Australia once stood, Russia is reduced to a shadow of its former self - and of course China sits resplendent on the top of the world.

The map's creator says it was inspired by this ten-year-old predecessor, although TeaDranks' scale is twice as large and uses the latest population numbers:
