According to the 2014 Accommodation Price Index released by Berlin-based company GoEuro yesterday, Shanghai and Beijing enjoy some of the most affordable accommodation in the world.

Shanghai, according to the index, has the second-cheapest hostel beds in the world after Cairo, as well as the eighth most affordable 1-4 star hotels.

Beijing also made an appearance with the world's sixth-cheapest hostels.

Hong Kong, meanwhile, came in at 9th place for most expensive 1-4 star hotels and Macau ranked fifth for most expensive Airbnb prices, fourth for most expensive 1-4 star hotels, and 18th for most expensive hostels.

The GoEuro survey covers  60,000 properties across 150 cities worldwide, and, with the international traveler in mind, does not factor local purchasing power into the calculations.

According to GoEuro's other major price index, Hong Kong is also the second-most expensive city in the world to "get buzzed after work." Now you know.
