The first set of pictures taken by China's new satellite Gaofen-2 were released yesterday by the State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (SASTIND).

Gaofen-2, which can capture full-color pics at "sub-meter clarity" and gather information on objects from space in incredible detail, was launched in August.

SASTIND reportedly plans to use the satellite for disaster relief, land use surveillance, and mineral resource surveys.
