Cleaver-wielding man takes woman hostage on Kunming street

A man armed with a large meat cleaver grabbed a woman on the street in Kunming and threatened to kill her Tuesday. 

The incident occured in the Yunnan capital's Xishan district. The man threatened to cut the woman's throat before he was tackled by police officers and arrested. 

The hostage was freed unharmed but rushed to hospital after she fainted. One police officer sustained injuries to his hand in a scuffle with the hostage taker. The man's motives are unknown.
