In the early hours of Sunday, June 30 at about 5.43am, a yellow dump truck traveling east along Shenzhen Beihuan Dadao hit the Banyin overpass, a bridge which is currently under construction (and now expecting further delays). The right-front end of the truck struck the sloping edge of the overpass, ultimately causing the bridge to collapse.
The bridge reportedly fell onto the dump truck along with a large blue truck trailing behind, but luckily, no one was injured at the scene. The incident subsequently resulted in major traffic congestion on the road for commuters heading eastbound for much of the morning.

The driver was apparently looking at his phone at the time of the incident, and said his “whole body [was] shaking” in the aftermath of the accident. The Shenzhen traffic police report corroborated this statement, saying that the dump truck failed to drive safely according to the traffic laws, and that the driver had taken full responsibility for the accident. One netizen pointed out one alarming fact, commenting, “Sure, the dump truck is responsible, but the bridge can easily be collapsed by a dump truck?”
