Never get between a man and his chili sauce, especially when that man is WWE Champion John Cena.
The wrestler/actor spared a minute out of his busy schedule on Monday, September 24, to tell his fans how much he loves Lao Gan Ma, a famous chili sauce in China (the brand name means 'old adoptive mother'). Cena makes it clear that his brief video about the delicious sauce was by no means an advertisement. He just thinks very highly of the flavorful condiment.

Sharing his favorite Chinese sauce while showing off his impressive Chinese is a smart way to connect with his fanbase. With over 413,000 followers on Weibo, Cena is “trying to embrace more Chinese culture,” as he stated in his video.
Lao Gan Ma has gained a lot of popularity this month. From September 9 to 11, the Guizhou sauce manufacturer’s logo was displayed at New York Fashion Week, gracing the front of a red hoodie, designed by Opening Ceremony, that read “Sauces Queen." Tao Huabi, the 71-year-old founder of Lao Gan Ma chili sauce, went from humble beginnings to a net worth around USD1 billion, according to a 2017 Forbes estimate.

The classic condiment even has a Facebook fan group (‘The Lao Gan Ma Appreciation Society’ if you’d like to join). With over 2,400 members, the group has been pretty active in sharing all the recent news regarding their favorite chili sauce.
Cena is the latest celebrity endorsement for Lao Gan Ma as the world grows to love both the sauce and the logo.
