In yet another example of tourists behaving badly at Beijing’s infamous Badaling Wildlife Park, a man was caught exiting his vehicle and throwing carrots at a group of bears on Sunday, South China Morning Post reports.
Like so many of the other incidents that have made headlines in the past year, this one took place in a safari-like exhibit. In these areas of the zoo, tourists are allowed to drive their cars through areas where bears, tigers and lions roam free. (Although there are reportedly moats that now separate vehicles from the animals.)
The visitors are prohibited from feeding the animals and are instructed to never exit their vehicles. However, history has shown that people don’t exactly like to follow the rules.

The man, surnamed Wu, reached out to Beijing Youth Daily after seeing the viral photos online and apologized for breaking the rules. He said he had seen other visitors exiting their vehicles in the tiger exhibit and feeding the animals, so he believed it was OK to do so.
The photos were originally posted online by Wu’s wife and have since been deleted. Luckily Wu made it out of Badaling unscathed. Others have not been so lucky.
Last year, a tiger attack at the park left one woman dead and one other severely injured after the two exited their vehicle in the Siberian tiger exhibit. In February of this year, a group of bears surrounded a vehicle and tried to paw their way inside through an open window. In July a driver had a close encounter with a bear after he attempted to feed it. And in August a man was bitten by a bear after he rolled down his car window and attempted to feed the animal.
We can’t help but ask: Why is this place still open?
