Bears Surround Car, Claw at Open Window at Badaling Wildlife Park

We’re just going to come out and say it: Perhaps driving a car through areas populated by wild animals is not a good idea, especially at Beijing Badaling Wildlife World.

The now-infamous Beijing Badaling Wildlife World made headlines last year after a woman was mauled to death by Siberian tigers after she exited her vehicle at a safari-like exhibit. The park drew more criticism over safety concerns when another tiger ripped a bumper off a car just a few weeks after the fatal attack.

Well, Beijing Badaling Wildlife World is making headlines yet again. But this time around it’s the bears who were on the prowl.

A group of visitors were driving through one of the park's exhibits on Sunday when they were suddenly surrounded by numerous bears, South China Morning Post reports. To make matters worse the rear window of the vehicle was open. At one point one bear stood up on its hind legs and attempted to claw its way into the vehicle through the window. According to a witness, surnamed Wang, there was a child sitting in the backseat.

There are numerous signs posted around the area specifically stating that windows should remain rolled up and doors should be locked while inside the park. In one of the photos of the incident, a sign that reads “Treasure Life, do not leave the car” is visable. But clearly not everyone follows the rules.

According to Wang, the car was surrounded by the bears for roughly one minute. Oddly enough, it didn’t drive away until a park staffer instructed the car to move on over a loudspeaker.

At least no one was injured (or killed) this time around, but still.
