Multiple small explosions killed at least one person, injured several others and smashed the windows of several cars near a Communist Party building in Taiyuan, Shanxi province.
According to the Wall Street Journal:
The blasts took place in front of the Shanxi Province Communist Party Committee building in the provincial capital of Taiyuan at around 7:40 a.m., according to a message posted to the verified Sina Weibo microblog feed of the Taiyuan police department.
Xinhua reports that "steel beads" were scattered at the scene of the explosions,
The explosions damaged cars in a parking lot located roughly 100 meters away, shattering windows and flattening tires, according to a report posted online by state broadcaster China Central Television.
Authorities haven't named any suspects in the attack, though many online have drawn parallels with a recent alleged terrorist attack in Beijing which killed five and hospitalised 38 people. The East Turkestan Islamic Movement, which seeks independence for Xinjiang, was blamed for the Beijing attack.
Update 11:40 CST: According to a Chinese reporter at the scene, Taiyuan Public Security Bureau insiders are calling the explosions a "terrorist incident".
