An explosion in a kindergarten in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province has left eight people dead, and at least 65 people injured. Two people died at the scene outside Chuangxin Kindergarten in Fengxian, and six others later passed due to the injuries they have sustained.
The blast took place yesterday afternoon, at 4.50pm, the time that parents would have arrived to collect their children. Graphic images and videos of the scene circulating online depict people lying on the floor covered in blood, and parents clinging to their children.
Although the kindergarten students themselves were yet to be released from class at the time of the incident, parents and grandparents had toddlers with them. It is unclear how many children are among those injured.
In a press conference this morning, it was confirmed that this is currently being treated as a criminal case, although the cause of the blast is still unknown.
China Daily reports that the yet-to-be-named suspect has been identified.
