Shanghai's People's Square Metro Fully Reopens This Weekend

Metro commuters rejoice, all lines at People's Square Metro are back open this weekend!

Recent renovations to Lines 8 and 1 left commuters unable to get off at the mega Metro hub (Line 2 was not affected). The redo included extra escalators and signs to make the subway more user-friendly. Several stairs and turnstiles have also been removed and an escalator was added to the Line 1 area, which is the oldest line (who could have guessed?) in the city.

Shendu Highway Station on Line 8 and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park Station on Line 2 are also open as of today. Shendu's station added two escalators and staircases, which will increase evacuation capacity by 43 percent.

The renovations are expected to also increase capacity at all three stations to deal with increasing traffic. These renovations come along with the Metro announcing extended hours on weekends.

Times they are a'changin'.
