Yet another typhoon is expected to hit Taiwan this week, before making landfall on the mainland somewhere near Xiamen, according to The Weather Channel.

The storm, dubbed Typhoon Megi, is expected to morph into the equivalent of a Category 3 or 4 hurricane before smashing into Taiwan sometime on Tuesday.

Predictions indicate Megi is to weaken in strength before hitting southern China, a result of the typhoon’s circulation colliding with Taiwan’s mountains.

Weather models, published by The Weather Channel and AccuWeather, seem to indicate the storm will make its mainland appearance somewhere between Xiamen and Fuzhou – similar to the route taken by Typhoon Meranti, which caused death and destruction in Xiamen a week and a half ago.

This latest typhoon is undoubtedly worrisome to residents of Taiwan, who battled through two typhoons over Mid-Autumn Festival: Malakas and aforementioned Meranti. Both storms brought formidable winds, flash flooding and landslides.

While it appears the PRD will likely be spared the brunt of Megi's wrath, some local media outlets have indicated Guangzhou can expect heavy rains.

As Guangzhouers and Shenzheners have learnt over the past few months, having lived through the climatically-disappointing Typhoons Nida and Meranti, this storm is probably not worth altering plans over.
