WATCH: Video of laowai praising Xi Dada is the worst

To coincide with Xi Jinping’s charm offensive in the US, Chinese state media seem to have launched a very misguided soft power campaign to convince the outside world that the man who has launched a brutal crackdown of human rights activists and stepped up China’s Internet censorship is just a big cuddly teddy bear (Winnie the Pooh, to be specific). And this time, as one YouTube commenter has noted, the 50 Cent Party has managed to recruit foreigners to the cause, rounding up a group of kool-aid drinking exchange students to sing Xi Dada’s praises.

“If my future husband is like him, I will be happy,” says one young South Korean woman.

Yep, when an Austrian millennial calling Xi Jinping “so cute” is not the most cringeworthy moment of a People’s Daily propaganda video, you know things are bad.
