Shanghai Metro to Stay Open Late for New Year's Eve

Fantastic news for all you New Year's Eve revelers: six Metro lines will stay open late for the holiday.

Last week, transportation authorities announced that Shanghai Metro Lines 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 and 10 would be open for extended hours between Friday, December 29 and Sunday, December 31. Each of those lines will operate according to the public holiday/weekend schedule, with most of the final trains departing either just before or past midnight.

However, some stations and exits will be closed on New Year's Eve to accomodate the crowds of people expected to be ringing in 2018.

East Nanjing Road Station (on Lines 2 and 10) will shut down completely starting from 8pm on the 31st. Xintiandi (on Lines 10 and 13) will still be open, but Exit 1 will close starting from 8pm as the city prepares its official New Year countdown party. Other exits for that station will remain open.

Depending on the foot traffic situation on Sunday, authorities may also temporarily close exits or stop people from entering certain stations, including People's Square, Lujiazui and Xintiandi.
