Where to Celebrate the 4th of July in Shanghai

Pursue happiness in its purest form this weekend with a whole slew of events celebrating American Independence. One nation, under God, with food and drinks for all y'all.

Bubba's Texas-style BBQ (Hongqiao)

Music, crawfish, BBQ, tacos and strong drinks can be found at this classic American joint in celebration of July 4. Food and drink tickets are sold at the door. The event will feature music by Nashville's Ramblin' Adam Brooks. We're not sure who that is, but he's got a damn good quintissential American band name.

July 3, free entry 12-6pm, Bubba's Texas-style BBQ (Hongqiao)

The Blarney Stone

American classics (like this one, we'd imagine) are taking over the speakers, Dog House is taking over the kitchen and the classic American drinking game of beerpong is taking over the tables. There will be RMB25 Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and RMB100 for six shots of Fireball all weekend long. It will be like you never left college...

July 2-4, doors open at noon Sat and Sun and at 2pm on Mon, The Blarney Stone

Lucca

The name of Lucca's "K*ss Me" American Party and the ab-tastic man on the event flyer has us thinking it's probably best to just show up and ask questions later.

July 1, 10pm-late, RMB60 with one drink (free entry before 9pm). Lucca, see event listing.

Bar Gatsby

Celebrate Uncle Sam with a wild night on the town with the fun loving Pub Crawl Shanghai crew. Things kick off with an hour of open bar followed by a drunken journey in a party bus to three bars and one club.

July 2, 9.30pm-late, RMB200-250. Meet at Bar Gatsby, see event listing.

Shanghai Brewery (Donghu and Hongmei)

Come celebrate by getting 'star spangled hammered' at Shanghai Brewery's Donghu and Hongmei locations, featuring specials on Brewmaster’s Choice American Pale Ale, USA-themed shots and properly patriotic cocktails.

July 4, 5-10pm, Shanghai Brewery (Donghu) and Shanghai Brewery (Hongmei), see event listings here (Donghu) and here (Hongmei).

Boxing Cat Brewery (Yongfu)

Boxing Cat will turn the house into an all-American themed party land with plenty of red, white and blue decorations, fun photo props and patriotic tunes all night long. Food specials include Korean BBQ chicken wings and spicy glazed Asian pork ribs all starting at RMB25.

July 2, 5-11pm, RMB150 for free-flow drinks, Boxing Cat Brewery (Yongfu), see event listing.

District Bar

District Bar will be hosting a combination 4th of July themed block party and bar/kitchen takeover featuring David Schroder of Californian eatery Goga Hai, Eddy Yang of the Tailor Bar, and Jason Oakley of Scarpetta and Coquille. There will be beer pong and possibly Bourbon pong, which we admit is a bit ambitious. Shirts and shoes are optional!

July 2, 3pm-late, District Bar
