Nov 4: Ólafur Arnalds
201510/Nov4-OlafarArnauds.jpgThe Icelandic multi-instrumentalist and producer has won BAFTA awards for his electronic tinged indie-pop. He returns to China to launch the second year of the Contemporale series. This collaboration between perennially cool promoters Splitworks and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (SSO) brings esteemed indie artists to the confines of the SSO’s concert hall for rare intimate shows. Other artists confirmed for the season are Julia Holter (Dec 3), John Grant (Mar 8), Destroyer (Apr 17), Damien Rice (May 22) and Lambchop (June 19). Nov 5: Postiljonen
201510/Nov5-Postiljonen.jpgYuyintang hosts another Scandinavian showcase headlined by the Swedish dreampop trio. Their soaring new single ‘Go!’ has been getting raves from tastemakers and Postiljonen will be joined by fellow indie-pop acts Pandreas and Siv Jakobsen. Nov 6: Dirty Fingers

Nov 8: Zuriaake

For years, this mysterious Nanchang group has been leading the country’s black metal scene. They take a rare break from the studio to tour the nation in celebration of their fine new opus, Gu Yan. An otherworldly mix of thunderous guitar with Chinese folk elements, the disc is one of the best China releases of the year. This show is a must-see for any metal fan. Nov 10-12: Taylor Swift

Last summer, T-Swizzle made her Shanghai debut on one of the last dates of her Red tour. So much has changed since her last visit. She's pretty much the biggest artist in the world right now, thanks to her much acclaimed and top-selling "pop" debut, 1989.

Alon Nechustan

The renowned New York pianist plays a very special intimate show backed by Heyday Trioès Danny Zanker and Jalill Auckbaraullee.

Nu Yorica, Vol. 10

Unico’s weekly music, fashion and culture clash from New York City features a live slam with guitar and drums by Uche Ollawa, Jan Prochazka and Gilles De Hovre. Complimentary gin market open to the ladies from 9.30-10.30pm.

Unge Ferrari

The Norwegian rhymer brings Scandinavian hip hop to DADA with support from some of China’s finest rappers and DJs, including Groove Bunny’s soulful producer Pete Chen.

Heidi

The American-German singer is a Heyday favorite, routinely packing the room and enchanting the crowd with a sound equally inspired by classic jazz and bossanova.

Jade Lee

A student of award-winning UK singer Tina May, Jade Lee is firmly established as one of Shanghai’s favorite jazz singers. She takes over the comfy confines of Heyday backed up by the Heyday Trio.

A Night of Duke Ellington's Music

Alec Haavik conducts the JZ Big Band through a special night celebrating Duke Ellington. Special guests Jade Lee will join in the show that really proves ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)’.

This pioneering brass ensemble mixes tradition and progress in an effort to create “diversity in unity.” Expect an eclectic program that touches on Bach and other legends.

The Hescher Has Culture: Shanghai Rock Night

Picking up from the much missed Rat on Swamp Dog monthly showcases, the Hescher Has Culture is a new monthly night of debauchery and Shanghai underground rock. The inaugural edition is headlined by the outstanding hard rockers Goushen with support from Pinball City and newcomers, Never Ending Story.

Old Doll

To ring in their 10th anniversary, these Chinese punk favorites are bringing their national tour to Yuyintang.

Baritone Roderick Williams Vocal Recital

The renowned baritone is joined by pianist Paul Cibis for a program that touches on legends like Brahms and Schumann.

Jasmine & Her Jazz Men

The Shanghai based singer is one of China's favorite jazz singers due to her mix of Western songs with Chinese lyrics.

One of China’s leading bass-baritones joins the Stradivari Quartet for a performance of an iconic Schubert piece.

Tinho Pereira

The Brazilian jazz guitarist is one of the hardest working figures in the city’s jazz scene. He’ll be performing a number of classics by likes of Joao Gilberto, Jobim and others.

Xiongguan Zhang Quintet
