Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...

We have it on good authority that the dreaded plum rain season is about to descend on Shanghai. Shanghai Daily reports that we can expect the rains to commence from Sunday onwards so we suggest you get your poncho out, give up on your appearance, forget about getting a taxi and stow away your best shoes for the next three weeks or so until the storms pass.

The East Asian rainy season or meiyu (literally plum rains), which usually lasts from mid-June until the beginning of July are named as such because the rains usually coincide with when plums become ripe in the area south of the Yangtze River. See our Plum Rains Explainer here.
