Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...
There is something peculiar happening in Shanghai this summer - or rather, something not happening: sweating. And eggs frying on pavement. And the sun attempting to turn the city and its inhabitants into piles of ash.
That's because this July is Shanghai's coldest in a long time - in 145 years, in fact.
According to China Daily, these record lows are caused by "days of rains under [a] cold air mass" and the weather is only expected to get chillier as three impending typhoons hit shore.
In other words - you can thank the weather gods for saving us from a sweltering heat wave, but you'll be hating them pretty soon. From the looks of things, Shanghai may be on track for a July so cold it makes 1870 look like a summer paradise.
