The outer edges of Typhoon Goni are to blame for widespread flooding in Shanghai and today's miserable conditions, reports Shanghai Daily.
East and southern Pudong got the worst of the rain yesterday where 30 streets and 300 households were severely affected. At Pudong and Hongqiao airports there were delays and cancellations last night, and although the downpours eased off overnight they seem to have come back with a vengeance this morning.
Rains will continue into this afternoon and the coming days, and although very misty, the air quality is moderate. Temperatures will hover between 23 and 26 degrees, offering some respite from the recent heatwave.
Sanfu, traditionally known as the hottest 30 days of the Chinese lunar calendar, officially ended over the weekend. The hottest day was August 4, when the mercury hit 39.2 degrees.
