Where in the world is the best city to eat well? There are lists crafted by experts, journalists and food bloggers abound, but they do not reveal the humble opinion of the everyday traveler. Well, chew on this: In a recent survey by the crowdsourced ranking site Ranker.com, Beijing made the top 10, beating – wait for it – Rome.
The online platform, logging more than 50 million monthly users, asked netizens to rank the tastiest culinary hubs in the world, victoriously landing Beijing at sixth place on the list.
Apparently, web surfers all over the world liked the capital's signature mix of northern Chinese fare, southeast Asian cuisine and high-end Western restaurants that we know and love – and write about for you each month. Though Beijing’s position in the rankings appears less of a surprise if you look at the rest of the list, as global foodies seem to be looking East for culinary thrills.

Taking a look at the top standings, we find Tokyo, the land of ramen, and Cantonese food shrine Hong Kong occupying first and second place, respectively, leaving Paris placed at third.
Bangkok also makes an appearance in the top 10, demonstrating that as our world becomes more and more connected, and Asian countries prove to be top tourist destinations, the taste buds of the masses lean more toward the diverse and colorful food offerings of the world’s intercultural metropolises.
Though traditional food capitals hold on: Fusion food haven London came in at fourth place along with Italian cities Rome, Milan and Florence following closely behind.
We’ll leave you to browse the rest of the list yourself. Head over to the platform and vote your favorite Chinese city’s cuisine and more. (Peking duck is only 21st on the list of ‘Most Cravable Chinese Food Dishes’ and this will simply not stand.)
