The 940-kilometer-long Capital Region Ring Expressway connecting Beijing to its neighbor cities is now in operation and open to traffic, China Daily reports.
Also known as the 'Seventh Ring Road' of Beijing, the highway will simplify transportation within the Capital Economic Circle (nicknamed 'Jing-Jin-Ji'), which includes Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. It will also help reduce traffic congestion on Beijing's Sixth Ring Road.
The expressway, which passes through the Beijing districts of Daxing, Tongzhou and Pinggu, will link up 13 cities around the region, including Zhangjiakou, Zhuozhuo, Langfang and Chengde. The project aims to boost tourism and economic growth ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will be jointly hosted by Beijing and Zhangjiakou.
