Downy was founded in April 2000 and is one of the first Japanese rock bands to officially incorporate visual art into its repertoire. It is considered one of the pioneers of the Japanese post-rock scene.

By combining music and video in real time, the band creates a live performance that is extremely impactful and expressive and has a strong influence in independent music circles in Japan and Asia. They are characterized by complex and changing rhythms and by strong live visual presentations, as well as by poetic lyrics and hysterical singing, forming a dense and tense aesthetic system.

The art exhibition “Xiangugu's Twelve Poems,” co-created by the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing and German-based artist Yang Yingji is on display at the fifth-floor art corridor of the hotel.

The exhibition uses painting, installation, and multimedia art as its medium, presenting twelve poetic works that offer a contemporary interpretation of Eastern culture. Touch the Deep Ocean at the Beijing Phoenix Center

Beijing Phoenix Center is now hosting a special exhibition that takes you on a journey through the evolution of ancient life from the depths of the ocean onto land. Touch the Deep Ocean begins with a display of rather creepy deep-sea specimens that teaches you about strange life forms collected during decades of research.


It then takes you on a journey through hundreds of millions of years of evolution, with life-like replicas of ancient species from the shallow sea to the abyss. You’ll see everything from small ancestors to prehistoric sea monsters.

There are also a number of activities for kids, making it a perfect family-friendly way to spend an afternoon. Children can draw their own deep-sea fish that get scanned and added to a screen showing the artworks swimming through the ocean.

Revel's World of Shakespeare

Revel's World of Shakespeare is a one-man show performed by the American actor and director, Joseph Graves, which explores his personal relationship with Shakespeare. The play, which debuted in Beijing around 2006, has been staged around the city.

It is a moving, autobiographical performance based on the author's challenging experience with his former teacher, Clive T. Revel, and his lifelong connection to the Bard.
