The plane is manufactured by Shanghai-based firm COMAC and can carry up to 168 passengers. It has standard and extended ranges of 4,075        kilometers        and 5,555        kilometers, respectively.

State-run newspaper the People's Daily reports that 570 orders from 23 domestic and overseas clients have placed orders for the single-aisle plane, which is said to be China's answer to Boeing and Airbus.

The plane comprises 100,000 components from a variety of companies, though as the Wall Street Journal points out, three quarters of the technology is foreign.
