In Bartisans, movers and shakers in the Beijing nightlife scene introduce a drink. This month: the team at Infina Vodka
The Drink. Infina Vodka is an 80 proof, 40 percent pure ultra-premium vodka made with Italian wheat from the Piemonte Mountains and Alp-filtered natural spring water. “We wanted to use the highest quality wheat possible,” co-founder Charles tells us, “and unsurprisingly that came from pizza-, pasta- and bread-loving Italy. The result is a sweet, smooth and crisp-tasting vodka.
The Vision. “It’s an Italian vodka sold in China by a Canadian, two Brits and one giant Chinese man!” says Charles. “We wanted to create a high-quality product that draws on Chinese notions of elegance and luxury and Western notions of heritage and experience. We’re targeting young up-and-comers who live, work (and party) in China. There’s a huge demand from that market currently and one that collectively we feel we know well.”
The Team. Chinese native, Rex, and Brit, Khurram, first bonded over a love of late-night dumplings while studying in New York. After Khurram moved to China, where he met Charles, they teamed up with Dylan and Rex to form the Infina core-four. “Our entrepreneurial spirit brought us together – as well as a complete disdain for fake alcohol. We enjoy being part of a cosmopolitan team that makes its own decisions and, of course, we’re all partial to a bit of partying here and there.”
How to Enjoy Responsibly. Dylan: “I’m old fashioned, so if it’s not a fresh martini with a twist, it’s simply on the rocks – but sipped rather than thrown back in one.” Charles: “I’ve recently become slightly obsessed with one of our new cocktails: Amaro Ale. It’s Infina Vodka, Amaro (an Italian liqueur), fresh lime juice and a healthy splash of ginger ale in a tall glass over ice. Refreshing and light.” Khurram and Rex: “If you’re at one of our events and you hear the familiar call of ‘shaaaaats’ reverberate around the room, you can be safe in the knowledge that we’re somewhere close at hand having the time of our lives.”
