Two new restaurants open next to the watering hole. Jonty Dixon gives us the scoop.

Uno Bar and Grill

uno-bar-and-grill-1.jpg

The brand
It’s classic American dining, but not as you know it. And you don’t really want to know it.

The menu
Burgers, pizza, steak. Taste the glory of the NHL with the hockey puck-like patty topped with tasteless bacon and cold cheese on the America Burger (RMB50).

The vibe
Unlike the food, the decor is good: open concrete walls covered in Japanese art and a decent-sized bar.

The standout
Weird broccoli balls off the snack plate (RMB65).

The score
One out of five NHL hockey pucks.

Zhu Jiu

The brand
It’s classic Japanese dining, largely how you know it.

The menu
All the usual suspects make an appearance: nigiri, maki and sashimi are accompanied by teppanyaki and tempura. Dishes can be a little expensive for not much food.

The vibe
Half the small space is dedicated to shojistyle private rooms, while the other half is seating around a bar-cum-teppanyaki grill.

The standout
Thick-cut salmon sashimi (RMB60).

The score
Four out of five sea urchin maki rolls.
