Nov 2: Jeremy Pelt Quintet @ Blue Note

When it comes to playing the trumpet, Jeremy Pelt knows what he's doing. With 10 albums under his belt, Pelt has risen the ranks in the jazz world and is widely renowned as one of the best young trumpeters in the jazz world. He's collaborated with the likes of Cliff Barbaro, Bobby "Blue" Bland and Ravi Coltrane and has performed alongside the Roy Hargrove Big Band, The Village Vanguard Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Big Band. The Jeremy Pelt Quintet will be performing at Blue Note Beijing on Thursday night.

Nov 2 7.30-9pm; RMB380. Blue Note Beijing, see event listing

Nov 3: JMSN

Just to clear up the confusion -- it's pronounced Jameson. Now that that's out of the way, the electronic and R&B artist will be stopping off in Beijing during his Drinkin' With JMSN tour. He's known for his ultra-unique and entertaining performances. This one should be good.

Fri Nov 3, 10.30pm; RMB160 (presale), RMB200 (door). Yue Space, see event listing.

Nov 4: Young Punk Party @ School Bar

Some of the city's best up-and-coming bands are gathering at School Bar on Saturday night. And the whole thing's being organized by School Bar resident photographer Xiao Hou. Russian Roulette, Day Dream, Waisted Laika, Duff Beer, The Outsiders, Gentle Grape and RST (Tianjin) will perform.

Sat Nov 4, 8.30pm; RMB100. School Live Bar, see event listing

Nov 4: Autumn Fade

LiveBeijingMusic and DDC are combining forces for an epic Saturday lineup. Alt rock quartet Dahlia Rosea will be making their debut performance. The quartet is making waves in Shanghai right now and recently signed with Modern Sky. New Generation (shoegaze), The Playcat (noise-pop) and Underdog (ska punk) will also perform.

Sat Nov 4, 9-11:30pm; RMB80 (door), RMB60 (presale). DDC, see event listing

Nov 7: Mabang

This will not be your average rock show at Yugong. Mabang are a band from Guanxi who fuse folk music from Southern China with rock, reggae and ska. If that last sentence just made you go, “Wait, what?” then go check them out.

Tue Nov 7, 8.30pm; RMB80 (presale), RMB100 (door); Yugong Yishan, see event listing.
