Aug 3: Dënver

The Chilean pop duo is all about creating danceable music that's an amalgamation of pop, indie, retro and a whole lot more. Made up of Mariana Montenegro and Milton Mahan, Dënver was also responsible for one of the top 10 albums in Latin America in 2015. They'll be performing at School on Thursday night as part of their China tour.

Thur Aug 3, 9pm. School Live Bar, see event listing.

Aug 5: Dirty Fingers

Shanghai-based Dirty Fingers are heading to Beijing. They recently recorded their latest album (yet to be released) right here in the capital with Yang Haisong (PK14). Since then, they've performed a whole slew of shows in the south. But they're finally bringing their punk rock tunes back to Beijing. LaiSee, The Sino Hearts and The Flyx will also perform.

Sat Aug 5, 9pm; RMB80 (door)/ RMB60 (advance). School Live Bar, see event listing.

Aug 6: Qipao Jazz Party

Three brilliant jazz musicians will be gathering at Yue Space on Sunday, so get ready to conjure up those good ol' Shanghai days. In addition to some stellar jazz music, there will be tons of dancing and good times. Dress up in your best 20s and 30s garb. Seriously, feel free to go all out! Sun Aug 6, 8.30pm; RMB50 (presale), RMB70 (door); Yue Space, see event listing.

Aug 6: Gnash

Branded by Vogue as “This year’s most unlikely sensation in the music industry, accruing the type of digital currency that could easily rival a Katy Perry or Lady Gaga”, international music knockout Gnash will be in Beijing to perform his cloyingly catchy hit ‘I hate u, I love u.’ A chance to catch the eclectic DJ, singer and rapper before he blows up.

Sun Aug 6, 9pm; RMB180 (advance), RMB220 (door); Yugong Yishan, see event listing.

Aug 6: Jam Metal Music Festival

Those with the (acquired) taste for metal can look forward to a loud, aggressive and angsty evening to enjoy themselves (or do whatever it is that Metalheads do). Modernsky’s Jam Metal Music Festival will span the spectrum of dark, loud music from death metal and nu-thrash to thrash metal plain-old heavy metal. The lineup of Empty Eyes, Purgatory, Skyfire, Ancestor and Death Penalty.

Sun Aug 6, 8pm; RMB100 (advance), RMB120 (door); Modernsky Lab, see event listing.
